Program Notes
The Natural Lands, A Suite for Euphonium Quartet was commissioned by and dedicated to my dear friend Eric Goode for his Graduate Recital at Boston University. The suite pays homage to the beautiful landscapes of Ithaca, New York and is named after the vast wood that is spread all around the city, coined affectionally by the locals as The Natural Lands. he first movement, entitled Return of the Road, is a bright and flourishing fanfare and theme, encompassing the feelings of me excitingly traveling to Ithaca, with the nostalgia from the summer following behind me. The second movement, entitled Her World, is a lush chorale, reflecting the inner most joy and serenity that occurs when you step into the world of someone you love most. The third movement, entitled “It’s Always Quicker Going Home”, is a jocular jazz waltz, depicting my eagerness to come home and then head back to Boston.
