Program Notes
The Treble Nomad first existed as a tune written by guitarist and writer, Jake Gerl, for his newly formed funk group called Oomami. The group was founded in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 2018 and was comprised primarily of students at James Madison University. While the group did not live into its elder years, Oomami left behind a fully recorded album consisting of some fantastic and groovy music. Jake Gerl would also go on to become the first guitarist in the contemporary jazz ensemble, The Sages of Future Soul (SoFS), founded in 2020. Fast forwarding to the summer of 2022, The Sages of Future Soul were to perform their first live performance and Jake agreed to have The Trebled Nomad arranged for large jazz ensemble by SoFS co-founder, lead trombonist and writer Shawn W. Davern. The arrangement was performed to an enthusiastic audience in August 2022, with former Oomami keyboardist Patrick Dahlman performing in the group. The Trebled Nomad has quickly become a staple of The Sages of Future Soul repertoire and it is the SoFS’ honor to keep such fantastic music alive through the big band medium!
