Program Notes
There is not a song that exists that exudes more aspects of lasting love and summer fun than Still the One, a song made famous by the soft rock group Orleans. Written by John and Johanna Hall, the song reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and has since become a staple in every summer “Yacht Rock” cover band’s repertoire. The driving rhythms and gorgeous vocal harmonies translate well to the brass quintet format, with each instrument getting its own moment to play the melody in the arrangement. The drum set exists as an integral part of the chart and the guitar solo from the original version as been translated to the trumpet section of the ensemble. It is this arranger’s hope that all fans of soft rock and brass quintet music will find a happy medium in this arrangement of Still the One!
